Music Composition
My work involves fully "in-the-box" composing and finalised production of standalone or scored-to-picture works of a wide range of genres and durations, delivered as one or more audio files licensed for your (or your organisation's) use. "In-the-box" composing involves working only with software-based instruments and effects, and no studio recordings of musicians' performances.
My standard approach to commissioned composing involves retaining copyrights to my creative work and licensing the use of the work. This means my standard licensing doesn't include buy-out of rights to the composition (the "creative work"), publishing, or the sound recording/s. However, it does include royalty-free use of the sound recording/s on an exclusive basis (other than my own use in promotion of my work), royalty-free sync to film/video, and freedom to create derivative sound recordings that the licensee owns (eg a new sound file based on adding a vocal recording to a backing track that I compose). My standard approach doesn't involve engraving (music notation), though that can be ordered separately. It also doesn't include source production files.
Please let me know if you need any clarifiction of the standard licensing, or if you would like to discuss variations to the default deliverables and licensing inclusions, which may affect price.
For various reasons including my own interests, the suitability of my experience and equipment, and available time, I may be selective about which projects I take on.
I'm based in Australia and charge in Australian dollars, though buyers can pay in other currencies.
The purpose of the calculator below is to let you experiment with price predictions to help you decide on a duration and level of complexity that suits your budget. Then, once we discuss your requirements to ensure we choose a suitable Complexity Level, it can establish a reliable Base Price and let you estimate a total cost based on the Base Price plus my usual rate for ongoing discussions and revisions. Alternatively, I can work to a flat hourly rate of A$79.80 (Australian dollars).
Ordering commissioned composition requires a payment of 50% of the Base Price up front, and the remainder of the Total Price on delivery of the audio master/s. The licensed rights are deemed to take effect only once the full price is paid, prior to which I retain exclusive rights to all aspects of the creative work and sound recording.
Payment for Australian customers is by credit card, debit card or direct deposit in Australian dollars, and for overseas customers is via Wise.com in any of the following currencies: US Dollar (USD), Euro (EUR), British Pound (GBP), Canadian Dollar (CAD), New Zealand Dollar (NZD), Singapore Dollar (SGD), Hungarian Forint (HUF), Romanian New Leu (RON), or Turkish Lira (TRY).
You can use the currency conversions at Xe.com as a guide, but the payable price will be based on the Wise.com currency conversion applicable at the time of payment.
